Iceland Design and Architecture aims for progress in design and architecture in Iceland focusing on sustainable development. Its role is to facilitate and promote design of all kinds as a vital aspect of the future Icelandic society, economy and culture.
Iceland Design and Architecture provides designers, companies, the public, international partners, and the media with services and advice pertaining to design in Iceland.
Iceland Design and Architecture manages a news service, oversees promotions, and stages events, lectures, symposiums, and numerous collaborative projects between Icelandic and foreign partners. The center’s staff maintains regular contact and builds strong connections with the Icelandic public, as well as with Iceland’s design, business, and innovation communities. Iceland Design and Architecture works to build a base of knowledge regarding needs and opportunities in the fields of design and architecture and is continually developing new projects, collaborations, and ideas for promoting these fields.
Iceland Design and Architecture owns and produces DesignMarch, DesignTalks, the Icelandic Design Award, the Design Fund, HA Magazine, and Design in Nordic Nature. In addition, the center works to increase collaborative and promotional projects, which have included Sustainordic, Nordic Sustainable Cities, Nordic Design Resource, WE LIVE HERE, as well the development of an Icelandic governmental design policy, Design as a Driver for Future.
Iceland Design and Architecture is owned by the Association of Icelandic Architects, the Icelandic Society of Furniture and Interior Architects, the Federation of Icelandic Landscape Architects, the Association of Icelandic Product and Industrial Designers, the Icelandic Association of Ceramic Artists, the Association of Icelandic Fashion Designers, the Icelandic Textile Guild, the Icelandic Goldsmith’s Association, and the Association of Icelandic Graphic Designers.
Iceland Design and Architecture is funded by the Ministry of culture and business.
