DesignMarch for fashionistas
DesignMarch is just around the corner but the festival will take over Reykjavík from 3rd to 7th May. This year's program contains around 100 exhibitions and 120 events. It's therefore safe to say that everyone should find something of their interest.
People with an interested in fashion and clothes need not to worry as there are planty of interesting fshionevents at DesignMarch this year. Here are a few.
Insight
Insights is an annual showroom showcasing newly graduated Icelandic fashion designers. The aim of the show is to give the designers a platform to showcase and introduce their innovative work to the public, creating a new generation of sustainably thinking designers. There will be various events in realtion to the show including a panel discussion on Thrusday May 4th from 5:30 - 7:30PM and a live exhibition on Friday May 5th from 5 - 6 PM.
Kormákur & Skjöldur and Farmers Market
Farmers Market and Kormákur & Skjöldur will show their collections with two runway shows at Reykjavík art Museum on May 5th 2023. The house opens at 7:30 PM woth music and drinks. First show stats at 8 PM.
MAGNEA / wool & confetti
MAGNEA presents AW23 collection at Exeter Hotel on Saturday May 6th from 3 - 5 PM.
MAGNEA is a creative fashion studio based in Reykjavík where innovative textiles, knitwear and beyond, are carefully designed by founder Magnea Einarsdóttir, a Central Saint Martins graduate. The collections are built on the designers ideology of a fresh and sustainable take on knitwear, including locally made outerwear of 100% Icelandic wool.
Swimslow
Swimslow introduces a new magazine “The Swimslow Wellness Guide” and invites you to a party at our new studio and showroom on Seljavegur 2, May 4th between 19-21. Drinks, music & good vibes only.

Yomigæri II
9 various design objects,
using 9 different sustainable techniques,
inspired by the 9 rooms of Hell in Dante’s Inferno.
Svartbysvart and Jarkko Kinnunen are back with a continuation of their project Yomigæri from DesignMarch 2021. This time inspired by the rich mythologies surrounding Hell, the Finnish duo is designing ceramics, wooden items and clothing – using fire and boiling water. The echibition takes place in Svartbysvart store at Týsgata 1.
Breeze 2023
Hildur Yeoman presents her summer collection at DesignMarch. Hildur Yeoman invites you to a party on Friday 5th May from 5:30 PM at her store, Yeoman, on Laugarvegur 7.
Come and wrestle
The clothing label BAHNS showcases a brand new sweater on DesignMarch and wants to challenge you to wrestle to win one of those bad boys. The sweater is inspired by the ship Stormur, its markings as well as knots used while sailing. The arm wrstle will take place in Sjóminjasafnið on Thursday May 4th from 5 - 7 PM. Helga Björnsson x Reykjavik EDITION
Take flight at DesignMarch with the colourful imagination of haute couture designer Helga Björnsson in a celebration of spring in collaboration with the Edition Hotel. The event will take place in The Roof at Reykjavík Edition Hotel on Friday May 5th from 5 to 7 PM. Helga Björnsson worked as a haute couture designer for Parisian fashion house Louis Féraud for three decades. She has designed costumes for theatre and opera and now designs printed silks and accessories under her own label.Colourful patisseries and cocktails, made with Helga’s patterns, created by food artist Áslaug Snorradóttir and the skilled patissiers of the Edition.
Fashion party at KIOSK Grandi
KIOSK's annual fashion party will be held Thursday May 4th from 4 - 8PM at KIOSK Grandi store where the designers will present their recent collections. Cocktails will be served inspired by the Grandi harbour.
AFTURGANGA
AFTURGANGA by Maggy Duchamp stops by at the shoe shop 38 þrep with its sculptural approach on clogs. The project emphasises local raw material and Icelandic design. You can say that AFTURGANGA is a progression or a circulation of materials that have taken on a new role with the focus of durability and to save them from ending up in a landfill. AFTURGANGA and the “trash” around us is applied to a new context that results in an Avant-garde product.
ddea pop-up at GK Reykjavík
ddea celebrates a new collection with a pop-up event at GK Reykjavík from the 3rd - 7th of May. ddea is a new and exciting Icelandic brand that specialises in quality garments made of beautiful "dead-stock" fabrics.
Spring / Summer 2023
ANITA HIRLEKAR will present her Spring / Summer 2023 collection at Kiosk Grandi store on Thursday May 4th from 4 - 8PM. Each style is hand painted by the designer in abstract floral motives using the designer’s exquisite use of color and shape.
Secret Shadows
Halla Armanns showcases unique Icelandic knit design where intricate machine knitting and fine craftsmanship meet. Her mission is to promote, advance and modernise the craft of knitting, while supporting Icelandic knitting traditions. The exhibition takes place in Fótógrafí at Skólavörðustígur 22.
#wearicelandic
The Icelandic Fashion Council is launching the 4th iteration of the project ‘#íslenskflík’ at DesignMarch 2023. The goal is to put the focus on the outstanding designers and creative people who work in fashion design in Iceland and celebrate the growth that the members of the council contribute to. Share your Icelandic clothing with the #íslenskflík hastag.
The Kormákur & Skjöldur Icelandic Tweed and scent world at The Reykjavik Art Museum
Kormákur & Skjöldur will show their expansion of their world of Icelandic Tweed and the scent line. The tweed line includes a wide range of garments and accessories. The scent line that is produced in Iceland includes beard beard oils, perfumes, home fragrance and scent sticks.
