DesignMarch for food lovers
DesignMarch is just around the corner but the festival will take place all over the capital region from 4th to 8th May. The program this year is versatile and exciting and boasts over 100 exhibitions and 200 events. It's safe to say that everyone should find something to their liking.
We've gathered events that are especially well suited for those that love good food, drinks and design.
On A Roll
For the past years Lady Brewery has released the beer "Is This Design?" during DesignMarch. The beer has been made in collaboration with different designers under the question "What is design?" in the hopes of attaining a cognitive connection with our immediate surroundings. This year Lady Brewery has teamed up with the design duo Gæla to answer this question. The result is a tactile beer, a beer that you can pet and drink.
MÁL/TÍÐ invites you to:
Two multi-sensory edible experiences, 7th and 8th May in the Nordic Housem by Elín Margot and Pola Sutryk, inviting participants to physically interact with food design: “Carnal Dinner” – exploring the relationship between food and sexuality and “Waste Feast” – focusing on reclaiming food waste and celebrating things considered “trash”.
in clay
The design studio innriinnri has been researching how Icelandic basalt can be used in ceramics. During DesignMarch, innriinnri collaborated with the food heroes at Brút Restaurant, but Brút will serve food on plates and bowls innriinnri has made by mixing clay and Icelandic Basalt.
SUBSURFACE – CONVECTION
SUBSURFACE – CONVECTION is an exhibition by s. ap. architects and Grugg & Makk. During DesignMarch, Ásmundarsalur will be transformed into the bar UNDIRLAND, a world where flowing lava is used as a building material and microorganisms that previously grew in lava fields have become the basis for wild-beer production. Guests can become a part of the world by sitting down at the bar and drinking wild-beer while shaping and exploring Lava cities through virtual reality and video games.
Growing fireworks
The project Eldblóm, by dancer Sigríður Soffía Níelsdóttir, began as a choreography for fireworks, which then transformed into a fireworkshow in the form of a flower installation and is yet again transforming into something else with a new liqueur - Eldblóm Elexir. The liqueur is made from the flowers used in the flower installation and goes especially well with sparkling wine so it might be a contender as the new Icelandic Spritz. It's not unlikely that guests will feel the need to dance after about three drinks, but guests will offered "dance-pairing" where they will be taught dance moves that pair well with each drink.
Coffeetime: studio allsber x sjöstrand
Sjöstrand and studio allsber invite you over for coffee! Drinking coffee with other people has stayed the same over the decades - the coffee is always the same although the food and nibs might change over time.
The Cloud by Inga Elín
Inga Elín's new cloud plates, a collection of multi-purpose porcelain plates, go perfectly with her renowned coffee cups. The plates are ideal for those that want to create a feast of food and design at home, both during and after DesignMarch.
The Kaffitár Collection
Quench your thirst for coffee and design at the some time. For the second time Kaffitár is releasing a collection of handpainted Ancap coffee cups in celebration of DesignMarch. The cups are hand-painted by Laufey Jónsdóttir illustrator and designer at Kaffitár.
