Things happen in the North

In late September, a product design festival will be held for the first time in Húsavík and its surroundings. The public will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the work of the designer where emphasis will be placed on the importance of product design in society as a whole and how it has shaped our daily lives.

From September 28th to 30th 2023, the diverse festival Design Thing, will take place where product designers will come together, showcase their work, give lectures, and enjoy each other's company.

Hraðið Innovation Húsavík is at the forefront of this ambitious festival, where professional knowledge in the field and innovative technical equipment of Hraðið are combined. 

The festival program consists of exhibitions by both local and international designers, as well as informative lectures such as presentations on the history of product design, lectures on the works and careers of exhibitors, the importance of the profession in daily life and intersections of product design and virtual reality, to name a few. 

Workshops and courses will be held for children and adults. Furthermore, students in product design from the Iceland Academy of the Arts will work on projects in the area and showcase their results at the festival.

Events such as a design pub quiz, quick lectures on failed designs, education and pop ups as well as concerts and parties will make the festival lively and enjoyable.

Those who attend the diverse program of the festival will also have a perfect opportunity to explore the beautiful nature of the area not to mention the design of some of the local architecture and design, including the Geosea baths in Húsavík, the Nature Baths in Mývatn, and the new Skógarböð in Akureyri.

It's an enjoyable festival that no one should miss.
