Hjördís completed her MArch studies at Virginia Tech in the USA. She runs the firm ARKHD-Hjördís & Dennis Architects with Dennis David Jóhannesson. They have won awards including the Iceland Ambassador's Residence in Berlin, extension to Laugarnes-school in Reykjavik and a garden house in the International Exhibition "Kolonihaven The International Challenge". They are the authors of a book in 2021 about the influence from the British Isles on Icelandic Architecture.
