Theodóra Alfreðsdóttir
Theodora is an Icelandic product designer. She holds a bachelor’s degree in product design from the Iceland Academy of the Arts (2012) and a master’s degree in Design Products from the Royal College of Art in London (2015).
Storytelling through objects: Theodora’s work revolves around the narrative an object can inhabit and explore ways of objectifying that narrative. She's interested in the way an object act as documentation of its manufacturing process.
Playing with the composition of simple forms and pure natural materials, the Composition light is a simple narrative of light, structures and textures.
The project explores ways to answer the question; Is it possible to extend the moulds active life with subtle interventions and by doing so, maintaining its value after the casting process by making it as desirable as the realised object?
Corrugation is a collection of lights inspired by mid-century furniture making, honouring the technique of veneer forming. It consists of a scalable hanging light and wall sconces, which can serve as building blocks.
The lamp is made up of two pieces, which fit together and form a sleek and functional table lamp from upcycled white cotton boards
Continuation of previous mould studies, here one mould, that can be stacked differently, is used to create unique ceramic tables - a new way of thinking about ceramic moulds that normally create the same object again and again.
