DesignMarch in Helsinki
DesignMarch in collaboration with the Icelandic Embassies in the Nordic capitals host events in the form of podcasts, taped in the preparation of the festival in Iceland. Participants in Helsinki are Päivi Häikiö is a graphic designer and a visiting teacher at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture and Kristín Eva Ólafsdóttir who has over 20 years of experience in the field of design as a partner & art director at Gagarín interactive design studio in Iceland. Moderator is Anni Korkman is Programme Director of Helsinki Design Week and Weekly.
The aim is to bring together designers from Iceland and the Nordic capitals in an interesting conversation about design and architecture, thereby creating a foreign forum for the festival in collaboration with the embassy and foreign cooperation site. In the time of Covid and closed borders, it is important to strengthen communication across those borders and to draw attention towards DesignMarch and Icelandic design from abroad.

Päivi Häikiö is a graphic designer and a visiting teacher at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture. After completing a master’s degree in Art Studies at the University of Turku and studying graphic design at UCLA, Los Angeles, she has worked in book publishing, design and advertising agencies in Munich, Hamburg and Helsinki. Päivi runs her own studio specialized in brand identities and art direction, visual storytelling and spatial design. In her work, Päivi pursues great interest in haptic and spatial expression, print publishing, colours and form.
Kristín Eva Ólafsdóttir has over 20 years of experience in the field of design as a partner & art director at Gagarín interactive design studio in Iceland. A graphic design graduate from the Iceland University of the Arts, she has in her work at Gagarín partaken in numerous awarded interactive exhibitions and fairs both in Iceland and abroad. Kristin Eva is currently studying MBA at the Berlin School of Creative Leadership.
Anni Korkman is Programme Director of Helsinki Design Week and Weekly. She has a Master’s Degree in Arts (Central Saint Martins, University of Arts London) and has lived and worked in Helsinki, London, New York and Milan. Helsinki Design Week is the largest design festival in the Nordics, and takes place around the city and online 9 – 19 September 2021. Helsinki Design Weekly is an independent design media that delivers dialogue, news and phenomena in design and architecture every week.
