DesignTalks 2022 - Susanne Vos, digital fashion designer at The Fabricant
Susanne Vos, digital fashion designer, will be speaking at DesignTalks 2022, the international conference and signature event of DesignMarch, exploring how design and architecture can help imagine and propose alternative futures and promote change.
Susanne Vos is a digital fashion designer at The Fabricant, a digital-only fashion couture house and pioneer in the WEB3 space. She graduated from Willem de Kooning Academy, where she researched how existing garments could be recontextualized into new identities. Questioning what and why we wear something has always been a center question in her conceptual designs. When coming across 3D she started to combine it with her tailoring background and fashion foundation. Susanne joined The Fabricant two years ago to collaborate with Creative Director Amber Jae Slooten, on it’s establishment.
The Fabricant is a digital-only fashion couture house leading the fashion industry towards a new sector of digital-only clothing. Their work operates at the intersection of fashion and technology, creating digital couture and fashion experiences that are always digital, never physical. The Fabricant aims to show the world that clothing does not need to be physical to exist. The Fabricant believes the digital-only fashion sector will open up new creative avenues beyond the limits of the physical world, while promoting sustainability and drastically reducing the negative environmental impacts of the current fashion paradigm. Digital fashion is a vast and untapped creative terrain, where the previously physically impossible becomes possible, returning to the heart of what fashion was always meant to be – a playful arena to explore and express our identities and individuality. The Fabricant collaborates with global brands and retailers, bringing their expertise as leaders in the digital fashion sector, to help them deep dive into its unlimited possibilities.
DesignTalks 2022 will take place in Harpa on the 4th of May and is curated by Hlin Helga Guðlaugsdóttir. This year the event will be moderated by Marcus Fairs, editor-in-chief and founder of Dezeen, connecting the conversations to a wider context, highlighting its relevance to an audience across professional fields.
The programme will be an exploration of resilient approaches, regeneration and reconnection with traditional crafts and indigenious wisdom, experiments rewiring and rethinking current systems, the design of data and information, extended realities and speculation into the future as a form of creative and critical reflection of the now.
“It will be a celebration of imagination - and a moment for deep thinking.” - curator Hlin Helga
Susanne will join Arnhildur Pálmadóttir, architect, Gabriela Sánchez y Sánchez de la Barquera, creative director, Aamu Song and Johan Olin, artists and designer from Company, Anders Lendager, architect, CEO and founder of Lendager Group, Liam Young, sci-fi architect and director, Giorgia Lupi, information designer and partner at Pentagram, Stefán Laxness, architectural researcher and artist and Valdís Steinarsdóttir, designer.
