The Airbag nominated to the Green Product Awards 2024
The Airbag by Studíó Flétta for Fólk Reykjavík is nominated to the Green Product Awards 2024. Over 1500 participants from 54 countries applied for the 11th edition of the Green Product Award. After being reviewed under the aspects of design, innovation & sustainability, the best submissions were nominated.
In most countries in Europe, around 10% of materials are recycled. It means that 90% of materials are only used once. By identifying waste streams from industries and utilizing them to create aesthetic or fun objects, we can increase the circular economy and decrease dependence on virgin materials. The design of the Airbag is a clear example of a transparent transformation from a linear to a circular economy. The Airbag is a truly circular product made of industrial and consumer waste from the automobile and outdoor industries.
“The Airbag” is a good example of the level of creativity and passion with which our nominees are contributing to a more sustainable future." Nils Bader, Director Green Product Awards
The online public vote will take place until January 14 and everybody can participate here.
The Airbag recently won Product of the year at the Icelandic Design Award 2023. Studio Flétta is designers Birta Rós Brynjólfsdóttir and Hrefna Sigurðardóttir, who focus on circular design in an uniquely creative way. The pillows are designed in collaboration with and for FÓLK Reykjavík, made from used airbags in cars that would otherwise have gone to landfill.
