From the jury
Women who vote is an ambitious print object where hundred years of struggle for political involvement for female voters in Iceland are portrayed in-depth by images and text. The design and layout were the work of graphic designers Snæfríð Þorsteins, Hildigunnur Gunnarsdóttir and Agnar Freyr Stefánsson.
The subject is approached with respect and framed in an appropriate and eye-catching manner. The red color sets the scene along with the excellent type font and an apt graphic narration draws out the quintessence of the political struggle for Icelandic women and its important role in history, in this unique and well-crafted yet accessible volume.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Women who vote is a book about Icelandic women voters for a century. The title refers to the right to vote but also to how women created a space to shape their own lives and society. The focus is on one election year every decade, thus taking eleven slices of women's history over the past hundred years.
